Village Business Profile: Limited Editions

Limited Editions
1176 Walnut Street, Newton Highlands

Home and fashion accessories, American Crafts

Jo-Ann Freedman, Newtonville resident, established Limited Editions in 1976. She has 3 employees.

What motivated you to get into business? I had worked in a variety of industries – publishing, advertising and more – but when I worked at the Boston YWCA I met a lot of crafts people, and at that time there weren’t any stores in Newton selling handmade quality merchandise.  I thought Newton Highlands would be a perfect location.

What is the biggest kick you get out of doing business in Newton? Becoming friends with clients.  Newton is home to many interesting and involved people – both famous and not.

Who inspires you? People who are well-read, up on current news and trends, and who are involved in worthwhile, humanitarian-related causes.

What is your biggest business challenge? Making a profit as a small business, and keeping expenses in check.

What do you know for sure? Not much!

What do you do when your well is empty/you need to recharge your batteries? Travel

What one piece of advice would you offer a new/prospective Newton business owner? Take it slow, don’t buy anything you can’t pay for within a reasonable amount of time.

What do you want your customers to know about you? That I care about them – I care what they think, I appreciate their feedback, and want them to have a good time when they come in my shop.

Your favorite stops in Newton: The Local, Give and Take Antiques, Marcia and Bea Antiques

Limited Editions fortunately places no limits on beautiful items. The shop is filled with elegant furnishings, chic accessories and witty gifts and cards. I’ve been able to find many things for special occasions.
